My students will strengthen relationships with one another on a beautiful, comfortable, and colorful space. In a community circle students are empowered to share stories form their life, talk about how they're feeling, or chime in on specific topics for the day. It helps students grow in their confidence with public speaking, but more importantly it helps them to know that their voices matter and they should be heard. The community circle gives all students the chance to say something and not just a few who are better at speaking up. It may seem silly that a rug could do so much, but I truly believe this will lay the foundation for essential communication skills that will last a lifetime. This rug is commonly in first grade classrooms, but it's not something that we've been able to purchase. It is a big investment, but it will impact all of our first graders for many years to come.
