Flexible seating provides students with opportunities to choose how and where they want to learn. It seems as on a daily basis, I'm moving desk or furniture in my class because students can't handle their seating arrangement. It doesn't matter to me where and how my students work, but it is a must for them to be engaged while working or learning. The beginning of the school year I allowed students to sit where they wanted to sit, but due to short attention spans and fidgeting with things I have had to rearrange my room 2 times in 4 weeks. When my students have the opportunity to select their seating, I can see a difference in their work ethic and behavior. Many of my students show an increase level of excitement, participation, and less distractions to their neighbors when given the opportunity to select their own personal space within the classroom.
