I teach at a Title 1 school where all of my students receive free or reduced lunch. Most have limited access to books or technology at home. However, my students have a passion for learning and discussing books! During our classroom read-alouds, my students make amazing connections to the text and can draw higher level conclusions. During reader's workshop, my students engage with their peers over the books they are reading and are given space to have those meaningful conversations. I am constantly amazed at how insightful my students can be when they pick up challenging material and how they tackle new and complex language patterns. My students love being read to and having time in class to read their own books. I capitalize on this passion by providing extended time periods each and every day to do both!
