My project will have its focus on the lower grades, 3-5. The pitched and non-pitched percussion instruments will allow the students to physically engage rhythmic, melodic, harmonic, and music theory concepts. They will be able to easily see, feel, and hear the varying music intervals to develop the skill of distinguishing one from the other and how they fit in the larger context of music. The students need exposure to meaningful educational experiences to discover and nourish their gifts and talents. In learning how to play the various pitched and non- pitched percussion instruments, students gain an understanding of how to read and write musical notation. Students will also learn how to create their own rhythmic patterns and musical compositions through the development of musical ideas on the pitched/non pitched percussion instruments. This project will help to bridge the gap between students who can successfully play recorders and more advanced wind instruments and those who cannot.
