The majority of time students spend learning is on the carpet and they need to feel clean and comfortable. Currently our carpet is old and falling apart. It is stained and has several rips that are covered up with velco strips. It is not a pleasant place to spend learning time. With this new numbered turtle carpet, my students will have clearly designated spots to sit on reducing transition time. As a class, we will sit there while engaging in mathematical discourse and it will also be used when students are writing, relaxing with a book, and playing math games. The carpet could also be used as a sensory path to help students count to calm down. It will brighten up our classroom and provide a warm and comfortable space for students to learn.
