The classroom library should be a place where students love to hang out. It should be comfy and inviting but more importantly, it should have lots and lots of books! I'm starting my first year of teaching fifth grade and right now, there are no books on our shelves. I want our kids to have a chance to have brand new books that they'll be able to access any time of the day! I want them to have a comfortable space to relax as they lose themselves in an awesome book.
I've carefully chosen books with characters and stories that reflect the students in our class. There are high-interest books that will catch the attention of some of our more reluctant readers. There are books of varying levels for the wide range of reading abilities in a classroom. There are books that will be great read-aloud and spark deep discussions. The carpet will be placed by the library so that students can have a place to lie down while they read and a place for the whole class to sit when listening to a book read out loud. This project will be just the start of creating lifelong readers and learners!
