My students will benefit from the use of flexible seating to assist in gaining core strength, provide them with the opportunity to choose where they learn so they will stay on task and assist them in maintaining focus during lessons. Research shows that students require movement daily. With the decrease in access to recess and the requirement for teacher directed physical education, what better way to incorporate core strengthening than to provide students with the opportunity to utilize these tools during academic instruction. In addition to core strength and on task behaviors, I expect these options will provide my students with a sense of ownership in the classroom, fostering confidence in decision making and independent functioning skills.
