My students are inner-city kindergarten-fifth grades in a self-contained special needs classroom. The disabilities range from learning disabled to traumatic brain injury. Some students have attention deficit disorders, short attention spans, and autism. My students are reading at least two years below their current grade level. When material is read to them or they see videos they ar able to answer questions and give responses beyond the text. They are able to relate stories to real life situations. My school is a high priority school meaning we have not made adequate yearly progress as deemed by the state of Michigan. My students receive free lunch and are largely from single parent homes. Only a couple of students have access to a computer in their home, and in class we have one computer and a netbook available. My students are hard-working students who attend school daily and are eager to learn.
