Currently my students have an old rug to sit on in the classroom. When I returned back to school to set up my room, I unrolled the rug and their were cockroaches and mouse dropping stuck to it. Because it is an autistic k-2 class, we work hands-on with the children throughout the day. A new rug would give the children a safe, clean space to learn to play with each other, to work on social skills lessons or to decompress when they are sometimes overwhelmed by too much stimuli during the day. My students deserve the best- a rug may seem like not a big thing, but to me it’s a big thing.
