Some students come to school for stability and structure, some come to learn content, some even come for both but all students want to learn in an environment that feels comfortable and comforting. Flexible seating is not a new concept, but I want to embrace this concept for Social Studies. Students will have a place to sit whether it be a pillow on the rug or a bean bag to lay across while they read a novel. Students who feel comfortable have better behavior as well as retain more information. Think about how much you remember while sitting in a chair at the DMV! Don't remember much? I didn't think so. Seating for Social Studies allows students to focus on their work, participate and have a grade they can be proud of because they are free to sit where they want and learn how they learn best! My mission and philosophy goes hand in hand! Welcome to 7th grade social studies! Everyone needs someone that thinks they are great! This sums up my passion, my philosophy and my classroom vibe! My hope and expectation is that your child feels at home in my classroom and they learn a little bit about social studies too. Expectations are high and I believe if you set the bar, students will meet it or better yet, exceed it. Students are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas and be open minded to learn something every single day. Social Studies is more than historical content, it is ultimately a class that allows students to develop their awareness of social issues and how to apply their knowledge to real world experiences as they become productive and well-rounded contributing citizens within our community, state, country and world!
