My students come to us from 16 different countries all over the world. I teach sixty English Language Learners, students whose home language is something other than English. These sixty students make up about 20% of our population. Our school in Saint Louis, is one of the top ten elementary schools in the state of Missouri. To celebrate our rich culture, we have a Cultural Day where all of the students participate in eating food, making crafts, and playing games from the different countries. Cultural Day was founded on the belief that every student and family member should feel welcome in our school regardless of their race, creed, color, or religion. Thus, celebrating the different cultures in our building became our main goal.
