The books I have selected are current, meaning recently published. Many of our books are outdated and boring, so the students aren't wanting to read them. Even our library isn't up-to-date so there's nowhere for them to find high-interest books that are current. I've selected a variety of different genres and subjects for my students to choose from. With these books, I will be maintaining a free choice reading assignment where they can choose which book they want to read and hopefully become excited about reading again. We also have a high level of English language learners and poverty-level students who might not otherwise have access to some of these books.
