My classroom has had a major overhaul! I am new to this school, and I have designed the room with various areas for students to go to if they need a break, work on puzzles, or finish assignments. My student with Down syndrome loves to sit in his little space when he needs time to himself. The area rug and chair will enhance his ability to relax instead of squirming around on the hardwood floors. My students love their little spaces, and I enjoy hearing their quiet laughter and conversations as they relish every minute of their independence. The rug and therapy ball will enhance the library area so that the students can choose books to read while lying on the rug or bouncing in the chair. The kids can release energy and still engage in learning at their own pace and learning style. I have four students in class most of the day, and then six others that come and go at various times for specific instruction. My students love word and math games, and I firmly believe that these are essential in addition to their main curriculum. I am creating binders for each student based on their yearly goals, and I have laminated sheets for practicing letters, numbers, sentences, and writing their names, etc. The fine tipped dry erase markers will be perfect for their daily morning binder work. I am so excited to create an inviting and engaging learning space for all of my smiley, happy students. I look forward to seeing them every day!
