Our students range in age from 10 to 13. The large majority of our students come from families of poverty and do not have computer access at home. They are in a special day class for severely handicapped students in a public middle school and are mainstreamed for one period a day. Our students range in reading ability from the majority being at pre-primer level to one or two students being at lower 1st grade reading level. Each student has a learning program designed especially for their individual abilities and needs. It is a challenge to keep all of them engaged and attentive throughout the day as we attempt to teach them functional academics and introduce them to the world in which they live.
