Visuals are so important for English Language Learners. I don’t know how many times I’ve been in the classroom and said: “right now I really wish I could project this handwritten document to the whole class.” We plan as best we can as teachers but sometimes I’m not able to anticipate specific student needs before a lesson and have it prepared in a digital-based platform. Real teaching requires flexibility and adaptation. The document camera allows me to take what’s happening in reality and project it to the whole class. Presenting student work as exemplars, demonstrating the writing/editing process, and modeling annotations are just some of the ways I can use a document camera in the classroom.
