The current curriculum we use to teach essential skills and content are old and outdated. As a teacher, it is up to me to find additional, supplementary materials that meet our state content standards, our CCSS, and help teach content-specific essential skills. Scholastic Scope magazines are a great resource to use because they are current, culturally diverse, engaging, and focus on non-fiction reading and writing and Grammar. Students enjoy these, and there are so many online tools that are useful for student learning. Students who are struggling readers find themselves enjoying reading these magazine because they are not cumbersome or overwhelming.
