Our school is using Wit and Wisdom as our main curriculum in reading. Wit and Wisdom provides our class with a variety of books on changes about seasons, the American West, civil rights leaders, and good eating but there are still many books that students are encouraged to read at home that do not come with the curriculum. The students in my class are able to borrow books from our classroom library, as they are encouraged to read at home for 30 minutes every day. As a new teacher my classroom library is limited and my class would benefit from the additional books that go along with the different modules in Wit and Wisdom. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the topics covered during our reading time if they can read more books about them. A book is a great source of information and can create an experience that some of us can only dream about or one that we are glad we didn’t have to live through. These books are also filled with rich vocabulary that will help my students as they learn to write their own stories.
