As a 4 and 5 year old, one of the best ways to discover new things and get a better feel of what they're learning is by hands-on experience. A great way to get that experience and have that aid in the development of the students is a sensory table! It helps them develop their language and cognitive skills, as well as helps them develop emotionally and socially. This is a great way for the children to express themselves and their creativity, which is important at this age. The students never got to play at a sensory table before! Teaching at a school where almost all the students are in a low-income household, I don't think they normally get a chance to. I feel every kid should be able to see what a sensory table is like! Being a second year teacher, I unfortunately haven't been able to get a sensory table. There are so many different materials I can put at the table to see where their creativity takes them, aside from the materials already provided in the set. Being in a school setting learning, it ideally is very structured. The sensory table is an area where it isn't a set of rules of how to play! This is an opportunity to express themselves freely!
