These classroom STEM Bins will provide an open-ended and developmentally appropriate foundation of engineering for first grade students. The manipulatives used to create the STEM Bins will challenge my students to create and invent as many structures as possible. First grade students need time to explore, create, build, and play in order to provide what they need as a whole child to succeed. These engineering manipulatives will provide my students with a wide variety of hands-on learning opportunities. In my classroom I will use the STEM Bins as tools for exploration, team building, behavior incentives, fine motor practice, and morning work time. Through use of the STEM Bins students of all learning abilities will enhance collaboration, imagination, problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, vocabulary, oral language, social skills, and curiosity.
