I believe that special education students need eye-catching materials to keep them engaged. I have requested all kinds of colorful products in the hopes that my students can see that learning can be fun vs. just having a pencil and paper. I want to create a positive and fun environment for my students because if they are not at least somewhat entertained, I know that their interest can be lost in the material. Some of my students struggle to stay focused on the English Language Arts curriculum, so my goal is to use some of these resources as breaks or rewards for them after completing a certain amount of the curriculum. I will be pushing them to their furthest abilities but, understand that they have a harder time than most children to sit down and focus on one assignment for an extended period of time. I want them to have something to look forward to each day and want them to enjoy being in my classroom. I feel that these extra rewards such as coloring or a quick game break in between my lessons will help them to stay on track with the required curriculum. I want to have a balance of the curriculum and reward them with a learning game if all of their work is completed.
