These materials will allow students to be familiar with the independent living skills needed after high school, how to maintain a budget and earnings, and learning how to secure employment. The students will demonstrate an ability to maintain a budget and manage his/her earnings. Students will demonstrate an ability to monitor his/her own spending by developing a mock budget based on potential earnings. Students will understand the difference between fixed and flexible spending . The students will acquire an understanding of basic check reading concepts. They will identify and explain regular work hours, gross pay, net pay, overtime, federal tax, social security, state tax, & other pertinent deductions. The students will demonstrate an understanding of new­ hire forms and rules and will independently complete a sample form W4 and/or sample form 1040EZ.and employee benefits forms. My ultimate goal for these students is the least restrictive environment beyond the walls of school and having them become their own best advocates.
