We have adopted a reading resource that integrates literacy with social studies. My students have the opportunity to learn about U.S. History, Ancient China and Ancient Greece and are so interested in all that it has to offer. The learning that takes place is amazing, but my students are wanting more! These books will make such a difference in my students' ability to dig deeper into the past in order to understand the world around them! We are limited in the books we have available to integrate literature that is factual, interesting, and will allow them to use their imagination! We need this integration in order to encourage my students to become well rounded readers and practice the skills necessary to become fluent readers whose comprehension skills allow them to find meaning, make purposeful predictions and understand central messages. Most of all, these stories will increase their love of reading!
