One essential life skill I would like students to learn this year is the importance of organization. I have had many students that will either lose their work or take out a ripped up packet. That being said, at a Title I high school, many students are unable to access a sufficient amount of school materials. With many of my students being newcomers to the country, some are still unsure of where to find school materials. Your funding of binders will help each student keep their notes for this math class organized. Organization is key to success, both inside the classroom and outside in the real world. I would like to teach this life skill to students by first teaching them how to keep their math notes organized. Since I see my SL (sheltered language) students 90 minutes every day, notes and activities will accumulate, so a binder is necessary for each student to keep their work. Also, because my students can benefit from many visuals and the physical writing aspect of notes (and not just online notes), I will need consistent access to paper to print. Although it is a math class, and some may imagine more numbers than writing, I emphasize writing phrases in both their native language and in English so that they can become better accustomed to the U.S. school system. Your funding will truly benefit these students by providing them the basic essential of having a place to store all their notes and work. Thank you so much!
