Library class for first-third graders is not only a time to develop a love for books and reading. I also have the opportunity to complement what the students are learning throughout their school day with targeted, focused lessons. This year we will primarily be exploring lessons in science and social studies during our library learning time. BrainPOP Jr will provide an engaging and effective way to increase the academic achievement of my students during the limited time I have with them each week. The format of BrainPOP Jr. will give me the flexibility to tailor my lessons to each grade level and to utilize a variety of teaching methods. BrainPOP Jr. is a web-based educational service geared towards children between kindergarten and third grade and offers curriculum-based learning in the form of interactive lessons in-line with state educational standards. The cost of this project will provide a subscription for an entire year and will benefit 240 students in my library classes.
