Our district is currently using a new Project-based learning curriculum. Our students will be beginning their Aquatic Life project with this experience, letting them explore and organically learning about the world around them. Our students do not have many opportunities to engage with the natural world, or anything outside of their small neighborhood, and this would be an incredibly unique chance for them to branch out. Students often do not latch onto STEM subjects when they have no hands on experiences or background knowledge to encourage them. Biologists and Astronomers are created on unique experiences at this age, and this will allow our students to feel connected to STEM in new and meaningful ways. This is a large group of students, from 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades. This trip will impact all these children at a young age, who are eager to learn and explore the world around them. They even get excited about riding a bus down the street and seeing the local Subway, just imagine how excited they will be when a shark glides past instead!
