Everyday my students come in and warm up their creative minds by doing a daily doodle or a small sketch. Then my students sketch out and plan their projects by making lists, doodles, sketches, and plans. They sketch out multiple ideas for one project and once they select one they draw it again, then add color. In art we take notes on daily to do lists, the steps of projects, the stages of clay, and the different kinds of printmaking. Often times its easier to draw out these things than to simply write them in lists. Of course its art class, the one space students are allowed to doodle too! This is all difficult to do in a ordinary lined notebook, or on index cards or post it notes. Students need a space to keep their ideas, sketches, and notes. These journal would be used everyday and filled to the end! The paper is thick and able to withstand the layers of glue we use in collages, the layers of paint we test, and the puddles of water students end up with when using watercolor. Students need a creative space of their own to take notes in their own style without concern of materials, space, or lines.
