I am a special education teacher who serves a diverse set of middle school students. My students need adaptive supports in reading, writing and math. My students have medical and trauma needs that will benefit from an age appropriate therapeutic learning space. It is very important to have access to diverse class sets of books in order to provide culturally responsive practices that invests in student learning and engagement. When our kids can calm their bodies and access their education, then we can expect better outcomes for them. When they see themselves reflected in the classroom environment they are more willing to buy into the ask we as educators have of them. All children deserve this opportunity. All children need to know their worth when they enter our classrooms. I appreciate the opportunity to have others value and invest in my students.
