My class spends a lot of time on the carpet learning academics and learning how to share and communicate as a respectful community.
Our social curriculum is vital to creating a positive learning community, and begins each day with a morning meeting on the carpet together. During our meeting, students need to be able to sit together and see one another in order to share with each other. Our current carpet is a stained hand-me-down rectangle. A clean oval carpet is much more conducive to allowing us to speak to one another.
We spend much of our day on the carpet outside of our morning meeting. We come together on the carpet to learn about the calendar and to work on important guided reading activities and read alouds that not only promote literacy learning, but serve to create a love of reading and story telling.
Our kindergarten carpet time is so crucial to so many social, emotional, and academic areas. We would be so excited to have a great space for these important times of our school day.
