Did you know that the single most important activity for building the knowledge required for success in reading is reading aloud to children? Read alouds are intended to be an intimate experience that mimics “lap story” reading time and allows for opportunities for students to develop foundational reading skills and see themselves as readers. In a primary classroom, it is especially essential for the class to come together around the rug to not only be closer to the text and discussions, but see this time as a meaningful experience in which they are individually a part of. We also plan on using our classroom rug for morning meeting time, shared writing, independent reading, and much more! Classroom rugs are unfortunately not a part of the school budget. In choosing one, we must be sure to comply with safety and fire codes, which makes these classroom rugs more expensive than a simple household rug. As the school year quickly approaches and we set up our classroom, we dream of a place where our students can gather and develop a love for reading and learning. We ask you to please contribute to the learning of our diverse students through your donation to our classroom rug! Our students will be so thrilled to have a cozy place to gather and share learning experiences!
