Our challenge is finding four indoor spaces during the hot weather. We go outside when it is safe and under 100 degrees, however, it is still tough on students without shade. Our space consists of a small field that we normally have three physical education classes of 30 students each and shared space with recesses. The other outdoor space is an asphalt surface in a back alley that is used for a variety of activities. Our students participate in a variety of lessons designed to promote health, wellness, and physical literacy. Having a shade structure for each of the four physical education classes would provide a safe home base for students when outside.
