My students need their senses engaged. Hands-on science activities let them do just that, giving them a chance to engage multiple senses. They observe, touch, smell, experiment. If they don't have materials it won't be as meaningful. Critical thinking skills are enhanced during hands-on science experiments. My students can ask the why, how and what questions. Even better, they can help answer the questions themselves. Which allows them to make discoveries on their own. My students will be more likely to remember a learning experience if it's just that, a real experience.
