A document camera would allow students to see follow along with me as we annotate a reading passage. I can also project picture books that I read to students to introduce and reinforce reading skills. Teaching comprehension reading strategies is a good way to help learners make sense of what they are reading. Picture books is a great way to help readers apply these skills through guided practice. Using picture books to model comprehension strategies is a great way to help readers transfer the strategy more independently. A picture is worth a thousand words! Having a document camera would allow all students to see the pictures clearly and improve their metacognitive skills such as visualization, making connections, and inferences. Having a document camera would also help those students who need special accommodations in class.
