Students will explore this semester's school-wide science theme through studying the "science of sound". We will use both nontraditional and traditional methods to explore the ways in which science and music intersect. Our focus aims to integrate STEM and music by utilizing software such as Scratch to explore composition through coding. We will also explore online composition platforms like Soundtrap so our students can see the ways in which musical creativity can be expressed using only their Chrombooks and an internet connection. Our traditional approach will focus on hands-on exploration of how sound travels through gas, liquids, and solids. Using everyday items like string, balloons, and bottles, we can begin to see how sound travels through vibration.
