Sand and water play provides preschoolers with many learning opportunities. A sand and water table allows children to gain math skills by filling and emptying a variety of sizes of buckets and containers. They can use different size scoops to see which ones hold more or less or the same amount of sand or water. A water table provides scientific opportunities by helping the children predict what items sink or float. Children gain language and social skills by sharing materials and working together through pretend play with sand and water. Children can be creative with open-ended materials in the sand and water table. Sand and water also provide children with sensory experiences.
