Kindergarten is a year full of academic learning as well as social emotional development. The materials that I am requesting from Conscious Discipline will help students to self-regulate and problem solve within the classroom. These materials will help me as a teacher to create and sustain a comfortable and safe learning community for all of my students. The "I love you rituals" will be excellent teaching tools to create bonds between students in the classroom. Students love to engage in songs and rhyme, and these strategic rituals will work to connect children with their peers. The "Safe Place" in the classroom provides students with a safe space where they can begin to regulate their emotions before returning to learning. The Conscious Discipline tools such as the breathing techniques, feeling buddies, and self-regulation books are all tools that will help support students' emotional needs as they arise in the classroom. Lastly, the school family items created by Conscious Discipline such as the job chart and problem solving mat will help to reinforce the classroom community. It is essential that students feel as if they are a part of their community and that they have a role to play in the classroom. The job chart is one way to help students feel they have responsibility in their community. It is also necessary that students learn how to solve their problems. The problem solving mat will help support students as they navigate conflict. Ultimately, my goal is to create a classroom environment where students feel safe, loved, and supported. By implementing the Conscious Discipline tools, I will undoubtedly be supporting students through their social emotional journeys, and providing them with a happy and healthy learning community.
