The Devil's Arithmetic is a powerful book about a girl who goes back in time and is put in a concentration camp. This book allows students to develop empathy and a fuller understanding of what happened to the Jewish people. We will study aspects of WWII in class but reading a novel helps to bring it to life by engaging with characters and their thoughts. We break apart the paragraphs and chapters, then discuss story elements that enhance their understanding of the time period. The iPad is a crucial key to many situations in my classroom. It will allow me to monitor students on their computers while I do small groups and projects. Also, last year we struggled to find equipment to film students for a movie project and found a difficult editing website to finish our projects on. If we had a class iPad, not only will we be able to film the students but they will be able to use iMovie to edit. These two products will make all the difference in my classroom this year. I would greatly appreciate these two donations, instead of paying out of pocket for them. They will enrich my classroom not only with the content but through allowing me more time. I will not need to hunt down these two resources and find a way to pay for them. Your generous donation will increase not only their education but their skills.
