Looking at my class’ NWEA data, 80% of my students are 2 grades or more below their grade level in reading. In efforts to close the gap, students need to read more. However, since my school does not have a library the only reading my students have access to during their reading intervention program are NewsELA articles. I want my students to read books they enjoy so their love for reading can continue. At the rate we’re going I’m afraid students will hate reading because the articles don’t provide the same experience as cracking open a book.
