The senior English classes have been enjoying survival novels for years. Miracle in the Andes is a student favorite and we only have a few books. This will give us a larger set so everyone can have their own. Even the most reluctant reader cannot help but fall in love with reading when this story of adventure and overcoming is placed in their hands. Nando Parrado, author and a survivor of a plane crash in the Andes, gives his reader a sense that they can overcome anything. Many literary terms as well as many writing opportunities are embedded in this novel. I am very eager to teach our survival unit. This year, more than ever, we need the message of overcoming.
