The students I have had were so eager to learn and they love art! I want to instill the arts as a way of life to help during the rough and tough times as well as the joyful times. We Live Art! I use art with reading to help promote student learning. After September 11 I found that children had a hard time putting the event into words, but they were able draw pictures to describe what they were going through, then I was able to help them put it into words. The projects for 3rd grade work with books and their vocabulary that we read, then students interpret the book in the form of an art project. Many of the supplies at this stage use construction paper. Grades 3-5 is all hands on when I teach the elements of art; line, shape, form, texture, value, and space. Grade 6 gets more involved with college preparation. We dive into the elements and the principles of art and then they are urged to enter state competitions. We Live Art!
