Margaret Atwood stated, "A word after a word after a word is power." In order to embed a love for reading students should first be excited about reading and have access to books they can not put down. Edutopia stated, "When we give kids access to a rich library, we provide hundreds of opportunities every day for their eye to fall on an intriguing title, or for them to see another student choose a book and become engrossed in it. When we surround kids with books, we show them that reading is something that permeates life, something to do at any moment of the day. When we give kids a library and let them choose their own reading material, we provide opportunities for learning that are deeper, more pervasive, more personal, and most importantly, student driven." I want to inspire my students love of reading and foster a passion to get lost in a book. Creating a class library full of books students are excited about is key to becoming a lifelong learner and readers. Through reading Ada twist Scientist or Izzy Architect the students will know that anything is possible with hard work, determination. Students related and admire situations they read about in graphic novels such Dork Diaries and Dogman. While in reading centers the students can have fun and engaging interactions with each other as they work on using text evidence to support their thinking as they determine the main idea, make inferences and more! I can also create a welcoming reading environment with shabby chic decor.
