Our rural school has approximately 500 students, and families are middle to low income. The school is pre-K through 5th grade. We are a small town school where often generations of a family have attended. Parent involvement is good and our school offers several extra curricular activities such as a technology club, a chess club, and a student council. Many of our students, however, are short on experiences. Families are working hard to make ends meet, and there isn't time or money left for trips to museums, cultural events, much less a vacation. Reading will open a world to these kids and help them "see" new places and things from another point of view.
