Being a second year teacher I have a better understanding of what I need for my students and I to be successful. This school year I am focusing on being organized, having a welcoming environment for my students, and providing the students with materials for hands on learning. The organizational items will help organize our area for guided reading. These items will allow my students to store their books and journals in a place where it will not get lost or damaged. With students spending most of their day in the classroom I wanted to make an environment where they felt comfortable even when they are upset or anxious. These calm down fidgets will give my students an opportunity to take a break and recenter themselves so they can return to their learning. Finally the math manipulatives will allow math to come alive for the students. Many of my students are hands on learners and want to physically move items to help make sense of the math problem. Overall every item will help all of my students have a successful year in second grade!
