Many of the students at my preschool cannot access books in the same meaningful way as our typically developing students. We have a growing library of interactive, repetitive books that connect to common preschool themes and basic concepts. In addition, I often I have page "fluffers" (turners) added to the pages to make them easier to turn for students with lower motor abilities. The books will be placed in an easy to access lending library for all of our speech therapists to access. Books can be borrowed from the library for circle time reading, small group activities, or individual therapy. Pete the Cat, Maisy, and Todd Parr stories help me teach my students social skills and differences in a fun and thoughtful way. With the help of Pete, Maisy and Todd, we are able to teach my students how to handle their emotions when things upset them ("Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons", "Pete the Cat and His Cool Blue Magic Sunglasses", The Feelings Book"), how to welcome new friends into their classroom ("Pete the Cat and the New Guy", "Its Okay to be Different"), how to solve problems ("Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcakes", "Where is Maisy?")and learn other academic skills (Pete the Cat and His White Shoes", "The School Book", Maisy's Wonderful Weather Book"). These stories allow me to create fun, hands on activities that my students can participate in. I will also sing along with the Pete the Cat books by using the "Pete the Cat" website. The wireless speakers will allow me to bring Pete's fun songs to life.
