Working with students with significant disabilities, at times some students can become very agitated and go into sensory overload. Having this space will allow them a safe space to give them the time and materials to calm down. The weighted blanket will allow the pressure that many of these students need to feel to calm down. The pillows, blankets, and drapes will allow me to soften up the space to keep this an overall calming space by blocking out added lights, hiding piping, and creating a calming environment with neutral colors. The visual timer gives them the visuals to distinguish when time is up as some do not know their numbers yet and this will give them a red blinking light to signal time is over. By donating to our project you not only will be assisting my clients with calming times, but you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. Students will have a space that will allow them to calm down when behaviors escalate. This will allow for the de-escalation process to occur quicker and allow them to get back to learning. This also will give them space away from peers so that their peers can continue learning.
