Having this calming area with a rug and beanbags in my room will allow the students in the school to have a safe haven that is much needed with all the pressures of growing up! This time in their lives is a very stressful time, so if they had a place to come and practice some calming techniques they would be able to self-regulate their emotions. This will in turn help them be more receptive to instruction. The district is leaning more on Social Emotional Learning so the counselors are playing a larger role in helping the teachers with everyday instruction. If we could give the students this safe place I feel as though there would be less behavior incidents.

About my class
