This inflatable lung set will integrate well in our respiration section of A&P and while studying body systems in Biology. I have seen this set of lungs demoed and it is truly amazing to visualize healthy lung tissue compared to damaged tissue of smokers lungs. The lungs inflate with a foot pump and students see the drastic difference in lung capacity between healthy and unhealthy lungs. This project will add a unique and impactful visual demonstration that will remain preserved for years. Students will observe how the health of lung tissue affects function and will see the drastic difference in surface area and pliability I will use this lung set in A&P, AP Biology, intro to Biology and honors Biology courses to emphasize environmental impacts on health and principles of form and function related to homeostasis and the interdependance of the body systems.
