READING IS FUN! Many students arrive to middle school with a fear of reading because of prior experiences. They think it is hard and boring. It is my job to make reading FUN!! I want them to know that the reading skills we are going to learn is useful in their everyday lives. My students are motivated to learn and are often asked to think and learn "outside of the box." I try to do very little paper and pencil activities in the classroom. Most days we are discussing, answering questions that are posted around the room, analyzing text on dry erase marker boards, having literature circles and more all while listening to music. Students have a weekly assignment from Read Works (website) to complete. This includes a passage as well as comprehension, inference and skill-based questions. They also use Read Theory and Google Classroom to access reading and writing activities in a fun and alternative method. Having a "working" laptop in the classroom will allow more students access to these valuable resources. Our school is very small and all the teachers share materials and supplies. An additional laptop will lessen that burden greatly.
