The carpet area keeps my second graders engaged and holds them accountable in all academic areas. We use a rug as a meeting and learning place. The carpet area is like the heart of our leaning. This space is where we do interactive reading and writing, read-alouds, share thinking as well as small group instruction. My students deserve a clean and comfortable space to learn. Our current carpet is about 10 years old and although it gets clean twice a year, the stains are still visible. Our carpet does not accommodate all the students in my class. However, the new carpet is a semicircle which is a perfect layout to have all my students together. Every student is unique. Students learn in different ways; therefore, the sensory cushions will excess energy and increase motivation in learning. Additionally, I believe that the students' attention and behavior will improve due to comfortable seating.
