These flexible sensory seating will help my students who struggle with anxiety, ADHD, etc. benefit from having a calming center in my classroom where they can go when they just need some time away from their classmates. My students will be able to choose from the corner table or the bean bag when they need isolation and they are still in the classroom. I will provide some manipulative for them while they are using the calming centers in my classroom.
My students have shown great interest in the calming center this last school year. I had an inflatable chair in my room, that requires that I used a pump on it weekly. To save time for both myself in my students I decided to investigate into more durable sensory seating for my students. I teach high school, so I need more durable seating. My students love this calming center I have set in place for them because now they do not ask me to go see the nurse, they just go the calming center when they need to and I am able to teach and my students are not losing instructions.
The flexible seating is great for my students who requires movement, they respect the calming spaces that I provide for them. It provides a safe, fun and relax space so they can organize their thoughts to get back into learning French. My students always comment that the calming center feels like a home. That is exactly the safe and calming environment feeling I want to provide for all my French students. Sometimes, my students would come to my room for lunch and they would bring a friend to experience the VIP experience I have set in place for them.
