My students study erosion in the spring. In their studies, they compare materials (models for realistic barriers) that will stop erosion. I want to extend this concept to comparing bridge building materials. One such material (model) are Legos. I have some but not enough for a whole class. Many of the materials I need are inexpensive (toothpicks, marshmallows, play doh, string) so I can purchase them. As in our study of erosion, the students will make predictions about what will work more efficiently and then test their predictions. I want to take my students’ creativity and love of building to a level where they are learning and they don’t even realize it.
